wide awake

It's been a while and honestly I can say it is because my girl hasn't really slowed down enough to even let me check my email much less blog. No seriously, there's been a few days where she isn't even kind of sleepy come 9:00pm. I have skipped nap all together for a few days just to get her to go to bed at a decent hour. Why don't you just lay her down, you ask? Or isn't she a crabby mess!? The answer is no. I would feel totally mean and selfish for laying her down wide awake. She isn't crabby. She is as hilarious and playful as if it were 2pm.
The problem is Heath and I are tired and we want to hang out! I am praying that this is just a phase and that my 17 month old isn't telling me that she doesn't need a nap already. Yikes.

She has been learning so much in these few weeks. Climbing is not my favorite but she is really good at it. The time it takes her to climb on top of the dining room table is astonishing. Heath and I both feel like broken records saying, "Jovie, stay on your bottom!" Here is a before and after scolding.

So, because of the climbing phenomenon and just for fun we scouted out a great park in east Visalia. This park has got a toddler (2-4) section and a bigger kids (5-12) section. It also has a water feature, that will rain on you when you push a button. We love it and we're becoming regulars.

"Pee-bo" Is Jov's version of peek a boo

Jovial has also entered a language explosion. We love to hear her version of everything. Here are a list of the words she can say today: (ps. this is more for me and my memory)

phone- pone

Our little girl is full of curiosity and adventure. Sometimes this is a little frightening when she walks away in a public place and doesn't even look back to see if I am following or watching her. She is so confident and brave and I love this about her. I am continually reminded that I named her Sparrow and I want her to fly.

So excited for a new post. Great pictures (especially the before and after "scolding"). I LOVE that one of Jov's first words is "scone". Awesome!

The 'no nap' phenomenon is totally a phase! I remember thinking your exact words!! Just keep sticking her in there for "quiet time" and know that some days she'll sleep and some days she won't. Either way, you and Heath deserve that precious time together!

I love that she's so independent and confident! What an awesome young woman she'll make...no idea who she'll be taking after :)

Excited to see you all soon!

Catalina I just want to come squeeze her! I love it! So cute! The nap thing could very well be a phase. Ethan did it too and while he doesn't always have a nap, there are days when he does! Love you guys so much and love hearing your voices!

That is a rad post! I loved hearing how Jov is pronouncing the many words in her ever-expanding vocabulary. You're a great Mama.

Such cute new pictures! I like the one of her and daddy on the slide. I'm sorry to hear about the no nap thing, that's terrible! I agree with Mary Katie totally. I think the most important thing is to be consistent! I know that's how I have to be with Jack, or he'd decide on his own things that wouldn't be good for him. Even if it's just "quiet time" right now, I think she'll definitely grow out of this phase and start napping again. I know how frustrating it is! And let's face it, we need a break as much as they do. :)

Oh mama, you poor thing! It's a good thing she so freakin cute and SMART, huh? The two bottom teeth kill me. What a happy grin!

Noah loves watching Jovy videos. He has requestd this one 3 times now. Each time he says "baby!" then "Mell-mo."

I love that they are internet buddies. Haha.

Hope you are able to get some rest soon!

Hi Catalina! Long time, no talk. :) It's Heidi's sister. Congrats on the new baby, and Jovie is getting so big and adorable! I loved hearing her new vocabulary and all the adventures she's up to. Makes me excited for the next year with Sebastian. :)

About the sleep thing - I'm sure it's just a phase. I'm kind-of obsessed with baby/toddler sleep and I've done a lot of reading on the subject. :) Most kiddos nap until about age 3, and she's not even halfway there yet, so I'm sure she still needs it. Have you tried laying her down awake at her usual bedtime to see what happens? Maybe she'd surprise you and go to sleep. I mean, at some point, she'll need to go to bed awake... we all do, right? Otherwise 9 will become 9:30, and then 9:30 will become 10, etc, because playtime with mom and dad is always more fun than sleeping! ;)

Sorry, didn't mean to write an essay! Just wanted to encourage you to stick with her usual nap and bedtime schedule/routine. Kids needs consistency. :) I also HIGHLY recommend "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth. It's the entire reason Sebastian is a *relatively* good sleeper.

Hope to see you soon!! :)
